Demo vs Real: how to test a bot before it touches real funds

2026-09-26 · 2 min read

Demo mode runs your bots against simulated funds using testnet keys. Real mode uses your mainnet API keys and trades real money.

A sensible path

  1. Backtest the settings on past data.
  2. Run in Demo for long enough to see several deals open and close.
  3. Go Real small: copy the bot to Real with an amount you can afford to lose.
  4. Review after a few weeks, then scale only if it behaved as expected.

What Demo cannot tell you

Simulated fills do not feel slippage, thin order books or exchange outages. Expect real results to differ slightly, and keep your first live size modest.

Try it in Demo mode
Build this kind of bot with simulated funds first. No real money involved.
